Origin Energy operates as an energy supplier spanning the full chain from fuel extraction through to household delivery, active both domestically and abroad. Upstream, it explores for and extracts natural gas, with exploration and production interests located in the Beetaloo region of the Northern Territory, the Browse area off Western Australia, and the Bowen and Surat basins of Queensland. It also generates power from a mix of sources, including coal, wind, pumped hydro and solar, and buys and sells both electricity and gas at wholesale and retail levels.
Beyond electricity and gas, the company trades liquefied natural gas internationally and supplies liquefied petroleum gas to households and businesses, and offers renewable-sourced electricity and gas options through its own green energy programs. It also equips homes with hot water systems along with heating and cooling appliances. Operationally, the business is organized into three divisions: Energy Markets, Integrated Gas, and Corporate. Established in 1946 and headquartered in Barangaroo, it is led by chief executive Frank G. Calabria, employs roughly 5,000 people full-time, and has traded on the ASX since 1999.
